Nightrage
When one takes a look at the discography of Nightrage, they gaze upon a solid catolog of melodic death metal. Despite many lineup changes, founder and guitarist Marios Iliopoulos (second from right) has kept this band and its signature sound alive. No frills, aggressive, pissed off sounding metal that is unabashedly melodic, Nightrage is pumping out music that fuels us with late nineties Gothenburg energy. Their upcoming release is an official version of their 2000 demo session album. I took this as an excuse to bombard Marios with a whole bunch of questions that span the career of the band. This one's a good one. Hell yea.
Pyramaze
While this might be listed as a Pyramaze interview, prolific keyboardist, piano dude, and orchestral composer Jonah Weingarten has also been involved with dozens of projects that span multiple genres. Here he is very open and candid about his life and day to day going ons as a professional musician in 2020. In an age where it seems everyone (including me) are complaining about the current state of affairs in the industry, here is a hard working musician who is continuing to be creative and produce high quality, enjoyable music.

Edguy
The interview was conducted through the phone on May 6, 2014 with lead guitarist Jens Ludwig of the band Edguy (interview edited for clarity). These are some of the questions I asked and the answers given by Jens. Many thanks go to Markus Wosgien of Nuclear Blast Records Europe for setting up this fantastic opportunity. It was a great pleasure to talk to Jens who was extremely kind. For our album review of Space Police: Defenders of the Crown, the latest by Edguy, click HERE

We All Die (Laughing)
We All Die (Laughing) was an unknown band to me until I saw them listed in the list of Promo CD's. I was interested by the tag of "Avante Garde" and had to give it a listen. What came from it, was an incredible surprise, and one of the better progressive style albums I've heard in some time. I was able to talk to both members of the band and get some insight to the album, and where it all came from.

Astrophobos
Astrophobos released a very impressive first LP a little over a month ago. I recently got the chance to chat with frontman Micke Broman and their new drummer, Jocke Wallgren, who were kind enough to take an evening conference call via Skype. In the transcription that follows (edited/merged a bit for clarity), all the answers are from Micke unless otherwise noted.

Dark Moor
One of our reviewers, Andy, was impressed enough with Dark Moor's most recent album Ars Musica that he took an opportunity to compile a quick e-mail interview with the band.
Thunderkraft
It took me a while to finalize this interview, but I did it. Between getting my questions answered and after that getting them translated, probably close to 3 months passed. Hopefully, the readership will be rewarded, however, by having a chance to glimpse into the mind of one Master Alafern, the leader of Ukrainian industrial death band Thunderkraft. The interview came out rather philosophical and reflectd on various, sometimes touchy, subject. You be the judge ...

With the main mic man of Skyclad, Kevin Ridley, releasing his debut solo album Flying In The Face Of Logic just a mere month ago, a thorough conversation was in order via some e-mail Qs. Everything from the content to the timing to folk rock to brewskies to football to Jethro Tull to dystopian novelists to Skyclad's future was brought up, no holds barred. Enjoy!

Amon Amarth
Recently, I was given the awesome opportunity to conduct a phone interview with Fredrik Andersson (drummer) of Amon Amarth, in support of the new album Surtur Rising. Unfortunately this interview was conducted during my lunch break, so my time was short, but Fredrik was happy to answer my somewhat disjointed questions (first phone interview, and I am a fan of the band, so I was a little nervous).
Lunocode
Following my review of Lunocode's Last Day of the Earth EP, I was given the opportunity to send a few questions their way to gain some insight on this promising group from Italy. Enjoy!

Iced Earth
Welcome to the bane of one reviewer's "professional" existence. To hopefully-real-quick clarify why this single interview is coming out so late...October 2008, during my student exchange year in America, I was honored to interview one of my favourite musicians of all time, Iced Earth's Jon Schaffer, when they played The Palladium in Worcester, MA. Great show, interview went really smoothly, awesome. As a combination of study-rushing, probably-once-in-a-lifetime-chance to travel around the US and procrastination delayed the uploading of this interview to june 2009, my activity was crippled by worrying that the piece wasn't current enough at the time. As much of the interview dealt with the Crucible Of Man-album, I decided to wait until the mentioned Something Wicked-box set would come out, since the album would be a part of it. Surely a dumb decision in hindsight (which is always 20/20), but you live and learn. Now that The Box was finally released by Century Media last month, and we're still feverishly waiting for the talked-about-below Festivals of the Wicked-DVD (and as Schaffer's new Sons Of Liberty-project is officially releasing their debut album next month), the time has come for Metalreviews.com to present my chitchat with Jon Schaffer that took place in their tour bus on that brisk October evening (He also signed my kazoo after the formalities, yay!).
Heathen
Heathen recently released one absolute stunner of an album. The Evolution of Chaos is its name and I got the chance to speak to one of the chaos-weavers. More precisely, David White.
The Dillinger Escape Plan
MetalReviews vs The Dillinger Escape Plan: we love the new album, but does the band? (answer - of course!)

Metal Reviews caught up with Dave Hunt/V.I.T.R.I.O.L, the voice of armageddon himself, to talk about the black monolith of human annihilation that is Anaal Nathrakh's latest album.
Khors
This interview was a while in the making. I really liked Khors latest Mysticism album, and thought I could pose a few questions for one of the band founding members. As Khorus was busy it took some time to connect. Then some of my personal circumstances stood in a way of editing and posting this faster. Here it is, however, a conversation with one of the prominent members of the influential Ukrainian black metal scene.
Nightwish
I was very happy about this interview. Since Dark Passion Play is two years old, I decided to push promoting that album to the side a bit. I think the interview with Marco a couple of years ago covers that. Whenever possible I like to interview the members that write the songs in the band. I have noticed that there is something unique about all these people. People such as Tobias Sammet, David Defeis, Tony Kakko, Derek Bonner, and Tuomas Holopainen. I like to delve into these folks a bit to try and find out how such great music is created.
Once again my encounter with Nightwish was pure class. I feel I have to mention this at every opportunity because for a band of this caliber, they are completely courteous professionals. From their tower of power manager Ewo, who is to Nightwish what Rod Smallwood is to Iron Maiden, to the crew, and the other band members themselves, everyone was total class. Nightwish are the de facto standard on how to be a professional touring and recording band.

Fauna
Fauna are one of the most interesting black metal bands about today, with Rain getting a particularly high score in these quarters. I recently contacted the band in their stronghold in the Pacific Northwest to ask them about the meaning behind Rain, and any future plans the band had...
